Butterflies are good indicators for the quality of habitats as they are sensitive to change in habitat quality, land use and landscape structure. Therefore, the EU decided on the uptake of the Grassland butterfly index as one of three indicators for agricultural ecosystems. Counting butterflies means understanding the health of our landscapes and where we need to improve it and avoid further degradation. This is why we need you to get involved!
